Go With the FLOW (Family Literacy Opportunity Workshops) Session II
During session II, all teachers  met with their “classes” of parents/caregivers and their children. They modeled reading strategies, including rereading, reading ahead, visualization, prediction, connections and inference. The attendees practiced with the books they received for the lesson, and then the students shared some of the strategies they had learned. Interactive notebooks were given to the students and their parents/guardians. These were used for storing the strategy flipbooks and other materials they were given and for responding to the reading.

During session I of these interactive school/family collaborative workshops, Ms. Schwebel introduced the program to the families, discussed the components of literacy, introduced the term “metacognition” and talked about reading strategies.
