NJ ASK Pep Rally

On January 15th, pep rallies were held for the third and fourth grade students to motivate them as they began to prepare for the NJ ASK test, which they will be taking in May. Mamta Tailor, Mentor Coordinator for the school, filmed the events. The pep rallies familiarized the third grade students with the upcoming test, elicited prior knowledge of the fourth graders who took the test last year and introduced the concept of the Interactive NJ ASK Comprehension Strategy Wall, the brainchild of Ms. Craig, Title I Reading Teacher. Ms. Cham, Title I Math Teacher, and Ms. Staples, Title I Reading Teacher, and initiator of the event, both addressed the students about the importance of preparing for the test. Ms. Schwebel, Supervisor of Language Arts Literacy, performed for the students an original Rap she wrote for them-the NJASK Rap:

The NJ ASK Rap
Listen up because here’s the tale
Of a school that just can’t fail
Not when you have kids like me
Committed to successfully
Master all our ABCs
And also our 1, 2, 3s.
Reading, Math and Writing too,
Science is something else we do
NJ ASK, watch out, we’re cool
East Orange Community Charter School!

The students enjoyed learning and performing the rap themselves, and left the room chanting the EOCCS slogan for the NJ ASK- “We’re the best-we’ll beat the test!” With this kind of energy and enthusiasm, these kids just can’t fail!
