Go With the FLOW (Family Literacy Opportunity Workshops) Session I
During session I of these interactive school/family collaborative workshops, Ms. Schwebel introduced the program to the families, discussed the components of literacy, introduced the term “metacognition” and talked about reading strategies. Ms. Schwebel modeled the strategy of visualization, after which the attendees drew their own visualizations in response to the book “Owl Moon” by Jane Yolen. Additionally, teachers modeled modeled paired reading, followed by the parents/caregivers and their children practicing reading together and then performing their poems from I’ll Read to You, You Read to Me.
